PM Narendra Modi Flags Off India’s First Hydrogen Train in Jind, Calls It a Historic Step Towards Self-Reliant India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi flags off India’s first hydrogen train from Jind, Haryana, calling it a historic achievement for self-reliant India. The 3,200 horsepower hydrogen train between Jind and Sonipat marks a major technological milestone, placing India among nations advancing clean energy railway technology.
PM Modi said Jind was not an ordinary land and highlighted the region’s identity, stating that while the famous Jind ghee and ghevar remained unchanged, the spirit and determination of the people had transformed. He said the launch of the first hydrogen train had fulfilled a long-awaited dream and placed Jind’s name in the pages of history.
The Prime Minister said Haryana had received several other development projects connected with an investment of Rs 14,000 crore. Recalling his bond with the people of Jind, PM Modi said he would never forget the affection and support received from the region.
Emphasising the importance of cleanliness, PM Modi urged citizens to make cleanliness a part of their daily lives. He appealed to the people of Jind to take a pledge that the city would never be made dirty and said this commitment should be strengthened further in the future.
Highlighting India’s achievement in hydrogen technology, PM Modi said hydrogen trains had only recently emerged globally and currently only three or four countries in the world had the capability to operate such trains. He said every Indian would feel proud after knowing the capabilities of India’s hydrogen train.
The Prime Minister stated that the hydrogen train operating from Jind was the most powerful hydrogen train in the world. The train has a capacity of 3,200 horsepower and is not only the most powerful but also the longest hydrogen-powered train developed by India.
PM Modi said that a look at the history of railways shows that the 19th century was identified with steam engines, while the 20th century saw the rise of diesel and electric-powered trains. He said the 21st century belongs to hydrogen-powered rail technology, and Indian Railways had taken a major step towards advanced technology.
The Prime Minister said the hydrogen train had commenced operations between Jind and Sonipat, covering a successful 90-kilometre route in its initial phase. He added that there were significant possibilities for expanding this technology in the future.
The launch of India’s first hydrogen train from Jind represents a major technological achievement for Indian Railways and reflects the country’s growing capabilities in clean energy-based transportation. The historic initiative marks a new chapter in India’s railway development and strengthens the vision of a self-reliant and future-ready nation.
